St Augustine Preparatory School Principal and Staff Charged with Murder of Pupil

St Augustine Preparatory School Principal and 4 members of staff have been charged with the murder of a six-year-old pupil.

The suspects include Principal Sarah Kesi, Bursar Venant Mwaliko, Driver Valdi Mbadi, his assistant Abdenego Mwendwa and the School Mechanic Charo Kazungu.

Mombasa High Court Judge Dora Chepkwony released each of the suspects on a Sh1 Million bond.

Judge Chepkwony further ordered the suspects to go for a psychiatric test to determine if they are fit to stand trial. The suspects are also required to appear before the county commander's office every day.

The six-year-old pupil, Jeremy Masila, was crushed to death by the school bus after he fell through a gaping hole on the vehicle's floor.

According to Coast traffic boss Emmanuel Okanda the pupil was trying to pick his water bottle and bag which had fallen through a gap in the floor plate of the bus.

NTSA revealed that the"floor plate of the bus was corroded and covered with a PVC carpet".

"This points to the fact that the school knowingly concealed this defect in the vehicle," the authority said in a statement.
