Armed Gunmen Attack DP William Ruto's Home in Sugoi

A General Service Unit (GSU) officer has been shot after armed gunmen attacked Deputy President William Ruto's home in Sugoi Uasin Gishu County.

The attack happened on Saturday morning shortly after DP Ruto left the house for a rally in Kitale.

According to residents and security agents, the attackers approached the officer manning the gate pretending to be selling some clothes and requested to be allowed into the home.

When he tried to restrain them, they overpowered and shot him in the head and leg leaving him unconscious.

The witnesses added that the three attackers then snatched his gun and gained entry into the compound. They are said to have shot and killed another officer on their way in.

Reports indicate the gunmen managed to access an armoury located in the compound which has several guns and other ammunition.

Officers from the elite Recce Squad unit have arrived to neutralise the attackers with the operation being led by Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Wanyama Musiambo.

The area has been cordoned off with residents and journalists following the operation around 400 metres from the compound.

Some of the residents have also arrived armed with bows and arrows to assist in hunting down the assailants.

There was no other member of Ruto's family who was present during the attack.
