President Uhuru Kenyatta Defeats NASA's Raila Odinga in Latest IPSOS Poll

If elections were held today, incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta would defeat his rival NASA Presidential candidate Raila Odinga, a new poll conducted by research firm Ipsos Synovate has revealed.

According to the opinion poll, President Kenyatta would garner 47% whereas Odinga would get 44%.

The study revealed that 5% of the electorate was still undecided whereas 1% of the respondents noted that they would not vote.

Despite losing in the overall tally, Mr Odinga is leading in 5 out of the 8 Provinces namely; Coast, North Eastern, Western, Nyanza and Nairobi whereas President Kenyatta leads in Central, Rift Valley and Eastern provinces.

Tom Wolf, the lead researcher at IPSOS, noted that the survey sampled 4,308 respondents adding that the poll focused on the registered voters.

“This was a household based survey. We had a sample size of 4,308 respondents. We insisted on confirming which polling stations the respondents were registered,” he stated.

The poll also shows that 50 percent of Kenyans feel that the country is heading in the wrong direction while only 38 percent believe Kenya is on the right path.

The research was conducted between July 3 and 12.

The research comes only a few hours after Infotak released a poll indicating that Raila was leading by 49% against Uhuru 48%.
