Gabriel Bukachi aka Chapia Chapia Decamps to Jubilee, Endorses Johnson Sakaja

A former Nairobi ODM Senate aspirant has now decamped to Jubilee Party with four days remaining to the August 8 General Election.

Gabriel Bukachi popularly known as Chapia Chapia whose nomination was revoked and given to lawyer Edwin Sifuna, on Thursday declared that he would now support Jubilee's Johnson Sakaja.

Speaking during a campaign rally in the Capital, Chapia claimed that he was chased from the Orange party for being “poor” hence decided to back Sakaja.

“I was chased away because they said they don't want poor people. So I have decamped and from today I, Chapia Chapia, will support Sakaja,” he stated.

The politician was addressing a jubilant crowd while flanked by the Nominated Member of Parliament who dropped his gubernatorial bid to run for Senate.

In May, Chapia was nominated as the only ODM candidate for the seat having passed unopposed during the primaries.

However, his nomination was revoked and the certificate given to Sifuna following a meaning convened by ODM leader Raila Odinga, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and other party leaders.

The party is said to have favoured the city lawyer noting that he was a stronger candidate and had a national outlook compared to Chapia.

He protested the decision since he was not informed the new role he would be given vowing to sue Sifuna and the Party for what he termed as going against his democratic right.
