Controversial Evangelist Gilbert Deya Deported to Kenya

Controversial Bishop and Evangelist Gilbert Deya has been extradited to Kenya to face charges of child trafficking

The Bishop arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport today at 5 am under tight security and in handcuffs accompanied by security personnel from the United Kingdom (UK).

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett confirmed Deya's arrival stating that police we preparing to take him to court.

“He has been handed over to the CID who are preparing to take him to court,” Boinett stated.

Deya was taken to Milimani law courts for the charges of child trafficking but pleaded not guilty to all the accusations.

The controversial evangelist was deported after losing a long-standing court battle against the extradition, in which he argued that it would breach his human rights to send him back to his home country.

He is accused of stealing five children between 1999 and 2004 in Kenya.

Previous attempts to deport the controversial evangelist have been futile as he has been filing appeal after appeal.

In 2007, UK Home Secretary Jacqui Smith ordered for an extradition of the pastor but Deya defied efforts to deport him to face trial, on the basis that his human rights would be under threat and he would face “cruel and inhuman conditions” if jailed in Kenya.

Kenyan authorities had issued an arrest warrant against Deya and his wife Mary Deya in 2006.

Mrs Deya was, however, jailed in 2014 and sentenced to three years in prison.
