IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba Speaks System Being Hacked Using Msando's Password

IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba has responded to claims by the Opposition that the commission's system was hacked using slain ICT Manager Chris Msando's password, saying the system was highly secure and very few people had access to it.

Speaking during a media briefing at Bomas of Kenya, Chiloba stated that the manner in which the system was set up ensured that data received met high integrity standards and claims made by the Opposition cannot be true.

He also addressed demands by the opposition to avail form 34A by saying that ''..votes are secure and have been verified because presiding officers should key in results as they appear on form 34A."

Chiloba mentioned that they believe whatever presiding officers availed to them was authentic because there was presence of party agents who are expected to sign the forms before the results are submitted. The CEO, however, assured that all form 34A would be availed to the public as soon as possible.

He further revealed that it was not possible for the system to register results if the number of votes counted at a polling station was higher than the number of registered voters.

When asked why the commission had taken a while to respond to hacking claims, Chiloba mentioned that they had been meeting to 'build a consensus'.

"We wanted different stakeholders to understand what was happening and we met to build consensus," he said.

"No one had access earlier to the system to ensure security," he added.

Earlier in the day, the opposition led by Raila Odinga revealed that they had sufficient evidence that the system transmitting results had been compromised and even availed a document to members of the public.
