2 Shot Dead in Nairobi's Mathare Slums After Attacking Police With Pangas

Two people have been shot dead in Nairobi's Mathare Slums along Juja Road.

Confirming the incident, Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome said that the two were attempting to attack police officers with pangas.

A group of protesters is reported to have clashed with police during the Wednesday chaos.

According to the police, the deceased were robbing locals under the pretence of protesting provisional election results.

Earlier in the day, Police fired teargas at a group of 100 supporters of Opposition leader Raila Odinga and the National Super Alliance (NASA).

The police reportedly lobbed tear gas canisters after the youth began chanting "No Raila no peace" and anti-Uhuru slogans.

The youth were also reported to have engaged the police in running battles after barricading roads in the area with burning tires.

The commotion began shortly after the NASA presidential candidate claimed that there had been "massive" fraud in yesterday's election.

In a press conference Wednesday morning, Mr Odinga rejected the provisional presidential results and claimed that hackers had gained entry into the IEBC system on Tuesday at around 12.40pm and created errors in the document that had presidential votes.

The current Presidential results show President Kenyatta leading with about 7.9 Million votes against Mr. Odinga's 6.5 Million votes.
