6 Journalists Who Were Declared Winners in August 2017 Elections

From the high number of contestants to the surprise candidates who threw their hats into the ring and emerged winners, the 2017 General Election will go down in history for a number of aspects.

Interestingly, there was also a high number of journalists, who quit their careers for the often murky political waters and to the surprise of many, they emerged winners.

Kenyans.co.ke compiled a list of six journalists who were lucky enough to clinch various elective posts in this years' hotly-contested.

Granton Graham Samboja

Former Radio Jambo Presenter Granton Samboja is set to be the next Taita Taveta County Governor.

Samboja was vying on a Wiper Party ticket against incumbent John Mruttu who was vying on an ODM ticket.

The Governor-elect garnered 39,252 votes against Mruttu’s 23,150 votes.

Mohammed Ali

Former KTN Investigative Reporter Mohammed Ali aka Moha is set to become the next Member of Parliament (MP) for Nyali Constituency.

Moha was vying as an independent candidate after losing in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s brother Said Abdalla Salim aka Saido.

The MP-elect garnered 29,798 votes against Saido’s 16,473 votes.

Paul Kahindi Katana

Former newspaper reporter Paul Katana is set to become the next MP for Kaloleni constituency.

Katana who was vying an ODM ticket clinched the seat with a landslide.

The MP-elect garnered 16,836 votes against his closest competitor Jubilee Party's Kitsao Kahindi Ngowa who got 6,536 votes.

Enoch Kiio Wambua

Former Standard Newspaper Editor Enoch Wambua is set to become the next Kitui County Senator.

Wambua, who was vying on a Wiper Party ticket, clinched the post in a landslide victory.

He secured 248,928 votes against his closest competitor Maendeleo Chap Chap's Stephen Mutua Kilonzo who got 30,641 votes.

Josephine Naisula Lesuuda

Former Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) News presenter Josephine Naisula Lesuuda is set to become the next Samburu West MP.

Lesuuda, who ditched the Jubilee Party, in March was vying on a KANU Party ticket.

The MP-elect beat her closest competitor Jubilee Party’s Jonathan Lati Lelelit after she got 14,561 votes against Lelelit’s 13,971 votes.

Gathoni Wamuchomba

Former Kameme FM Presenter Gathoni Wamuchomba is set to become the next Kiambu County Woman Representative.

Gathoni who was vying on a Jubilee Party ticket garnered 915,477 votes against her closest competitor Jane Wanjiru Chege who got 26,726 votes.
