A 47-year-old South African woman has been charged with failing to pay for drinks worth about Sh400,000 at the Hilton Hotel in Nairobi.
Anne Margaret Champion was accused of ordering drinks worth Sh386, 988($3914) at the hotel.
Ms Champion appeared before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi who heard that she had committed the offences between July 22 and August 14.
"The accused pretended that she was in a position to pay the hotel bills a fact which she knew was false," the court heard.
Her lawyer, however, argued that the bill was $6000 and the amount stated in court was the balance which she was yet to clear.
The prosecution asked the court not to free Ms Champion on bond stating that she was a high flight risk.
Magistrate Andayi, however, freed Ms Champion on Sh100,000 bond noting that it was the right of every accused person in Kenya to be given bond.
The foreigner was to face another charge of being in the country unlawfully but the court was told the immigration law does not require South Africans coming to Kenya to have Visas.
Her case will be mentioned on August 28 while the hearing is expected to kick off on September 4.
