Nominated Senator Godliver Omondi Elected MCA in Kakamega County

Former nominated Senator Godliver Omondi, who is allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) was last week elected as MCA for Kholera Ward, Kakamega County.

Ms Omondi, who had been representing people with disabilities in the Senate, emerged victorious after trouncing six competitors in last week's election.

She garnered 3,657 votes while her closest competitor, Mr Karim Wesonga Tingili of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), got 2,657.

Ms Omondi noted that her decision to vie for the MCA ticket was informed by the need to be able to serve her people more effectively.

The outgoing Senator, who contested on an Amani National Congress (ANC) party ticket, further noted that she was very comfortable serving all her people and not just those with disabilities.

The legislator promised to use her four-year experience in the Senate to represent and serve residents of Kholera Ward better and to their satisfaction.

Last year, Ms Omondi surprised many when she announced that she intended to “downgrade" from senator to being a Ward Rep.

She was, however, not the only surprise in the County as 45 incumbent MCAs were sent home, with the biggest causalities being Majority Leader Robert Kundu Makhanu and Minority Leader Titus Marachi Kwomah.
