Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion has asked the ODM Party led by Raila Odinga to remove his name from Party's parliamentary nominees' list.
Speaking in Kabarnet, Sossion, in a surprising turn of events, stated that he had declined the nomination so that he could focus on commitments to KNUT.
He asked ODM to consider someone else for the position in the party list to represent workers rights.
Last week, reports emerged that the ODM Party was working on a plan to replace Sossion with outgoing Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto in its nominees to the National Assembly.
The Party's officials confirmed that the matter had been brought up at meetings but was not received well by some members.

In June, ODM forwarded Sossion’s name to the IEBC as one of their nominees to the National Assembly.
The KNUT Leader, who hails from Bomet, confirmed that he had applied for the job.
“We wrote to all political parties asking them to nominate workers’ representatives to Parliament. If ODM has picked me, that is welcome for we shall diligently represent workers,” Sossion stated.

A section of KNUT leaders, however, accused Sossion of using his influential position to advance his political interests.
