NASA Set to Hold Peaceful Protests Outside Supreme Court

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has announced that some of its leaders will hold a peaceful protest outside the Supreme Court today, Friday.

The protest is scheduled for 10 am and has been dubbed 'We want the truth'.

Leaders expected to lead the protests include Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, Nairobi MCAs, Activist Japheth Muroko and members of Bunge La Wazalendo and Bunge La Mwananchi.

NASA decided to challenge the presidential election outcome at the Supreme Court after pointing out several irregularities in the results announced.

In opting to challenge the IEBC’s results, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga left his options for protests and labour strikes open, saying that they are constitutional.

The hearing will take 14 days after which a ruling should be made by September 1.

The parties that will take part in the petition include the National Super Alliance (NASA), Jubilee Party and the IEBC.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's legal team on Thursday filed his response to the petition filed by NASA leader Odinga.

His legal team arrived at the Supreme Court at 9.07pm Thursday. Lawyers present at the registry were Ahmednasir Abdullahi, Katwa Kigen, Tom Macharia and Evans Monari.

Speaking at the Supreme Court, the President's lawyers said they will file documents "but not all of them".

Mr Abdullahi said they are confident that there is nothing to worry about in the petition as the election was peaceful.
