Five Bodies in Body Bags Retrieved From Lake Victoria

Five bodies, including one with bullet wounds, have been retrieved from Lake Victoria in Kisumu County.

One which was found Friday evening at the shores of the lake was discovered with bullet wounds

According to Kisumu Governor Anyang'Nyong'o, the four other bodies were found wrapped in body bags in the Lake.

The Governor indicated that the bodies were discovered and recovered by fisherman operation at the Lake.

Speaking at the mortuary after viewing the body, Mr Nyong'o  promised to seek forensic services to examine the body.

He further called for thorough investigation into the four other bodies adding that police could have buried several others secretly at the Maomboleo cemetery.

The Police have, however, refuted the claims saying they had no hand in the deaths.

“Police have got nothing to do with that one. We were called to collect the body, which we did. Those are baseless claims from the governor,” stated Titus Yoma, the Kisumu County police boss.

The Governor, however, ignored the remarks and challenged the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to thoroughly investigate police actions during protests which occurred after presidential results were announced.

The issue has raised more suspicion over claims of police brutality during post election events in the county.

Kisumu residents protested over the announcement of President Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner of the concluded election.

Police were deployed in the area to stop the protest, in which several people are said to have lost their lives in running battles between the police and the protestors.
