Supreme Court judges were on Saturday angered by a lawyer seeking to be enjoined as a friend of the court when the lawyer spoke out of turn.
Lawyer Charles Kanjama asked the court to indulge him as he sought to point out a technical error in an argument that had been put forward by President Uhuru Kenyatta's lawyer Fred Ngatia.
"May it please the court, there is a technical issue that has been addressed and I was going to seek the leave of the court to give just one point, it is a technical point," Kanjama started before he was interrupted by dissaproving murmurs from those present in the court.
Chief Justice David Maraga proceeded to deny Mr Kanjama the opportuniuty to speak, citing that the lawyer was out of order and had no authority to speak during the hearing.
"You know, Mr Kanjama, you have not even come on record. So how do we allow you to come in? If we allow you to come in then we have no reason whatsoever denying anyone else to come in," a clearly offended CJ told the lawyer.
Mr Kanjama had only minutes earlier sought to be enjoined to the petition as a friend of the court, to which the seven-judge bench assured he would receive verdict on Sunday.
The Law Society of Kenya official was, however, persistent in his plea as he proceeded to insist that his submission be allowed.
"I appreciate that situation, what I am noticing is that we have not..." Kanjama stated before Justice Maraga interrupted.
"No! No! No! We cannot go on like that. You know the procedure Mr Kanjama so please sit down," the CJ dismissed.
Mr Kanjama yielded, allowing the court proceedings to continue.
