NASA Leader Raila Odinga Speaks After Attending All Saints Cathedral Church Service

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has reiterated his team's resolve to hold prayer meetings in the city ahead of the hearing of his election petition.

Speaking just moments after the Supreme Court postponed commencement of the hearing, Mr Odinga explained that the prayers were a way of comforting millions of Kenyans who were hurt by the outcome of the August 8 General Election.

"As you know, our country is going through very difficult times. Most Kenyans are hurting because of what happened on the eighth of this month.

"Kenyans are crying and craving for justice and that is why we came here to pray with the rest of Kenyans," Mr Odinga told journalists after attending a Sunday service at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi.

The Opposition leader asserted that the metaphoric journey to Canaan was still on course and that Kenyans would be liberated from political oppression by the Jubilee regime.

"Today's sermon here was on the journey to Canaan and as we said, we crossed the Jordan on the eighth and we are past Jericho, we are on our way to Jerusalem.

"I want to assure Kenyans that nothing will prevent the will of the people to liberate themselves from the political depression, oppression, corruption, deceit and misrule that has characterised the Jubilee administration in the last four years, " Mr Odinga charged.

The NASA leader rubbished the police order barring the Opposition from holding a prayer vigil at the Supreme Court.

"We don't seek any permission, we only notify police so that they provide security. That police officer does not understand the law. This is a free country, we have Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Association and Freedom of Expression," the Opposition leader conveyed.

Mr Odinga snubbed an inquiry touching on the threat issued by NASA elected parliamentarians to boycott the swearing in ceremony set to take place on Thursday.

The legislators had accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of acting in bad faith by calling the first sitting of Parliament despite a pending poll petition.
