Plans to Bury Robert Ouko's Widow Christabel Ouko Stopped Over NASA's Presidential Election Petition

Plans for the burial of Christabel Ouko, the widow of the late Minister Robert Ouko, have been changed following the ongoing National Super Alliance (NASA) petition at the Supreme Court.

According to the funeral committee, Ms Ouko was scheduled to be buried on Saturday but there are concerns that the Supreme Court verdict scheduled for Friday will spark either celebrations or protests that could affect the burial.

The deceased will instead be buried on Thursday at her home in Koru, Muhoroni Constituency. Her Memorial service was held at the at the Citam Church Valley Road in Nairobi on Wednesday.

Ms Ouko died on August 21 after the vehicle she was travelling in was involved in a nasty road accident in Muhoroni along the Kisumu-Kericho Road.

The deceased is said to have been returning home from the swearing-in ceremony of Kisumu Governor Anyang' Ny'ong'o when her car rolled at Kipsitet junction.

Shortly after the accident, Ms Ouko's body was taken to the Siloam Hospital Mortuary in Kericho and later transferred to the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.

Until her death, Ms Ouko had taken to a quiet yet productive life in Kisumu County, engaging in social work, community empowerment and farming.

Mr Ouko, who served as a minister during Presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel Arap Moi's regimes was murdered in 1990.

His murder case, however, remains unresolved to date.
