Bungoma Senator-elect Moses Wetangula's Bodyguard Charged in Court

Bungoma Senator-elect Moses Wetangula's bodyguard has been released on a personal bond after he was arraigned in court on Wednesday morning.

Simon Lonyang' was charged with causing disturbance and forcing his way into the Supreme Court with a firearm.

Appearing before Nairobi chief magistrate Francis Andayi, he was accused of resisting arrest after he engaged in a scuffle with his seniors as he tried to enter the supreme court building.

During the hearing, the court was told that Mr Lonyang' pushed Robinson Thuku, an Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), and other officers as he tried to force his way into the Supreme Court.

Nonetheless, he denied the charges and was released on a Sh20,000 bond.

On Monday, during the hearing of the petition filed by NASA, Mr Lonyang' engaged in a scuffle with his seniors after trying to enter the court room in the company of Mr Wetangula while armed.

The incident caused a scene at the Supreme court entrance which led to the disarmament and arrest of the bodyguard.

Yesterday, Police refuted claims that the bodyguard had been fired from the National Police Service following the altercation.

Meanwhile, Mr Wetangula has raised an alarm stating that his life is in danger after his bodyguard was apprehended.

Speaking shortly after attending a Supreme Court session, Wetangula on Tuesday noted that he was now alone without any security, hence, exposing him to situations that are a threat to his life.
