On Thursday, The National Assembly held its first sitting where the MPs were sworn-in Speaker Justin Muturi re-elected.

Muturi retained his seat after garnering 220 votes against his opponent, Dr Noah Awinja, who got one vote during the second round of voting.

During the first round, Muturi got 217 votes against Awinja's 4, which was not enough to give him the two-thirds majority win.

According to the house rules, one needs 233 votes to get a majority required to be elected speaker in the house of 349 legislators.

His election means Jubilee retains the speaker positions in both Houses after former Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka was elected the speaker of the Senate.
