Justin Muturi Re-elected Speaker of the National Assembly

Justin Muturi has been re-elected as the National Assembly Speaker.

Muturi retained his seat after garnering 220 votes against his Opponent, Dr Noah Awinja, who got one vote during the second round of voting.

During the first round of voting, Muturi got 217 votes against Awinja's 4 votes which was not enough to give him the two-thirds majority.

According to the house rules one needs 233 votes to get a majority in the house of 349 legislators to achieve the majority required to be elected speaker.

His election means Jubilee retains the speaker positions in both parliamentary houses after Former Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka was elected the speaker of the Senate on Thursday afternoon.

Mr Muturi becomes the seventh Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, in  2013.

He was the first Speaker to serve following the re-establishment of a bicameral Parliament, as mandated by the 2010 Constitution.

On 28th March 2013, Muturi won the speakership in a similar fashion with the second round of voting by Members of the National Assembly, beating former speaker Kenneth Marende by a 219–129 margin.
