Governor Charity Ngilu Warns President Uhuru After NASA Won Petition

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has promised that the Kamba community will make a clear statement in the upcoming elections, announcing the region will vote overwhelmingly for Raila Odinga.

President Kenyatta garnered over 175,000 votes across Kitui, Makueni and Machakos in the nullified August 8th polls which was equivalent to 15%, a much higher share from 2013 when he got 89,000.

NASA still got the majority of the votes, with over 960,000 cast for Raila.

While meeting elected leaders in Kitui town to come up with a strategy, Governor Ngilu advised the President to forget those figures as he would not come close to them again.

Governor Ngilu went on to tell the MPs and MCAs, “The Kamba vote belongs to NASA, we voted for Raila Odinga and without apologies, we’ll cast our lot with him again.”

The region has largely been dominated by the Wiper Democratic Movement led by NASA running-mate Kalonzo Musyoka.

An intensive campaign by the Uhuru-led party saw Jubilee bag three MP seats in the region. Prominent businessman Peter Muthoka spearheaded Jubilee forays into the region.

Maendeleo Chap Chap, a Jubilee affiliate party led by Governor Alfred Mutua also trounced Wiper in the Machakos Gubernatorial race, which featured Wavinya Ndeti as the NASA candidate under Wiper.

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana is also expected to marshall leaders in Makueni to mount a serious campaign for NASA.

At the meeting, Governor Ngilu warned the President against insulting the Judiciary and NASA Leaders. The Kitui County boss accused President Kenyatta of dictatorial tendencies and working to deny Kenyans freedoms guaranteed in the 2010 Constitution.

She noted that the President’s defence of the embattled electoral body and his reaction to the Supreme Court ruling proves the integrity of the election was intentionally compromised.

NASA had earlier revealed plans to use elected leaders across the country to ensure a first-round win for Raila Odinga.

This includes a particular focus on protecting their votes in Jubilee strongholds by sending leaders such as Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho to serve as agents in Kiambu and Nyeri respectively.
