Mandera Governorship Candidate Files Petition at Milimani Law Courts

Mandera gubernatorial loser Hassan Noor has filed a petition challenging the re-election of Jubilee's Ali Roba.

Noor who was vying on an Economic Freedom Party filed the petition at the Milimani Law Courts claiming there were malpractices during the polls.

Speaking after presenting his papers, he alleged that Roba was not validly elected since there were various cases of intimidation.

He claimed that on the voting day, some agents were chased out of the polling stations and brutally beaten up to a point of being hospitalised.

Noor further noted that no voting took place in Mandera presenting a bunch of documents to the court to help prove his case.

The candidate was the only challenger of the Governor and garnered 63,003 votes (46,33%) against Roba's 72,985(53,67%).

The two engaged in a heated campaign which in several cases resulted in clashes between their supporters, who were all backing President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election.

During one of the rallies which was addressed by Kenyatta, 12 people sustained injuries after members of their parties engaged in physical confrontations and shouting matches.

Noor is the first Governor aspirant to file a petition since the National Super Alliance (NASA) won its case challenging President Kenyatta's re-election.

Former Meru Governor Peter Munya who unsuccessfully sought to defend his seat on a PNU ticket has also indicated that he will launch a case against incumbent Kiraitu Murungi's win.

Munya, when announcing his support for NASA leader Raila Odinga, stated that he had obtained crucial evidence to prove that Murungi was not credibly elected.
