Jubilee MPs to Call for Referendum to Change the Constitution

The Jubilee Party is planning to call for a referendum to change some sections of the Constitution if President Uhuru Kenyatta is re-elected.

Responding to the Supreme Court's nullification of Kenyatta's win, Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua divulged that Jubilee parliamentarians would look to amend some sections of the Constitution

He added that they would call for a referendum in order to change some parts of the Constitution which require the public to be involved.

“You have heard what the people of Mathira have told me, for those sections which require a referendum they are ready. After Uhuru is sworn in we shall look at all these things. For those that require a referendum, we will do it so that people can bring sanity into government," he stated.

Mr Gachagua expressed his dissatisfaction with the Court's ruling maintaining that it was not fair for four people to subvert the will of 15 Million Kenyans.

On Saturday, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria stated that his first business in the House would be to increase the number of judges required to annul a presidential election to 5.

He stated that he would also seek to abolish the electronic transmission of results from the constituencies.

On his part, Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia called for a change to the Constitution to ensure the nullification of presidential results is supported by the whole bench.

He also asserted that there should be a change in the laws that govern a presidential election.
