IEBC Issues Statement on Replacing CEO Ezra Chiloba and 4 Other Senior Officials

The IEBC has issued a statement on reports indicating that the poll body has resolved to suspend CEO Ezra Chiloba and four other senior officials, ahead of the fresh presidential elections set for October 17th.

In a statement issued on Tuesday morning, IEBC noted that it had not made changes to the staff at the commission, adding that they would announce the changes when they occurred.

"We are faced with another spell of fake news. Kindly ignore story on purported staff changes at the Commission. We tell it when there is," the electoral commission stated in a tweet.

The reports aired on Citizen TV and on The Standard showed that CEO Chiloba would be sent on compulsory leave and replaced by Marjan Hussein Marja.

Immaculate Kassait, who is the Director Voter Registration and Electoral Operations, was apparently set to go home and her place taken by Patrick Odame.

It was further alleged that Salome Oyugi would take over from Praxedes Tororey as the Director of legal affairs while Michael Ouma was to replace James Muhati as the Director of ICT.

Decimah M’mayi was apparently being considered for the position of Deputy Commission Secretary as IEBC prepares to conduct the re-run election.

After the Supreme Court nullified the Presidential election, National Super Alliance leader Raila Odinga blamed Chiloba, Ms Kasait and Mr Yakub for the botched presidential elections.

He also named Betty Nyabuto who is the head of operations, Mr Muhati and Mr Tororey who leads the legal department noting that they ought to be prosecuted.
