The National Super Alliance (NASA) has written to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati with an official list of issues that need addressing before they take part in the fresh election.
IEBC had announced October 17th as the date of the fresh election adding that only President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga would participate.
However, NASA has asserted that the limiting of the race to two candidates is unconstitutional as the court ordered a fresh election, not a run-off.
On Monday, Thirdway Alliance candidate Ekuru Aukot announced plans to move to court to challenge the electoral body’s decision.
The Alliance has also demanded that IEBC should engage in consultations involving all parties and relevant stakeholders regarding the election date.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the opposition coalition claims that the date set for the fresh elections was determined by Jubilee.
The NASA leader had earlier claimed that Education CS Fred Matiang'i’s decision to release exam dates and urge the electoral commission to conduct elections by 17th was meant to pave way for IEBC announcement.
In the list of demands, the Opposition has also called for all necessary measures to be put in place to ensure the election meets constitutional standards.
They have asked the electoral body to release all relevant information on the technology infrastructure and the IEBC’s support partners so that the system is transparent and verifiable.
The NASA leaders demanded physical view and inspection of IEBC servers, along with portal accesses to cloud servers and IP addresses of all 20 servers used in the election.
They also want full accountability from the Commission concerning Saffran Identity and Security (Morpho) which provided the KIEMS kits used in the polls.
NASA has further demanded a review of the electoral infrastructure including the voters' register and polling stations.
This is meant to address concerns which emerged during the presidential petition that a number of polling stations which submitted results were not gazetted.
Also among the demands is full transparency in the planning and operations of the fresh elections.
They have proposed the establishment of a Technical Monitoring Committee with members from all political parties and other relevant players.
The Alliance also wants to know the framework for ballot printing and result declaration forms stating that Dubai-based Al Ghurair firm must be blacklisted from the upcoming process.
NASA has also called on the electoral body to clearly define the role of security officers to be involved in the electoral process.
The Odinga-led coalition further insisted that personnel changes be made to the IEBC Secretariat before the election is held as to guarantee the integrity of the process.
The former Prime Minister had announced that he would not take part in a fresh election without assurances that it will be absolutely free and fair.
