Martha Karua Files Petition Challenging Anne Waiguru's Governorship

Narc-Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua has filed an election petition in Kirinyaga County challenging Anne Waiguru's win in the recent election.

She filed the election petition at the Kerugoya Law Courts on Tuesday alongside her legal team.

This comes days after the Supreme Court nullified the Presidential Election ordering for a fresh election that is scheduled for October 17, 2017.

Ms Karua refused to concede defeat to the former Devolution Cabinet Secretary (CS), claiming that the counting and tallying of the results were not properly conducted by the electoral officials.

"We disputed the counting and tallying and demanded a recount while the process was ongoing which the IEBC denied," she stated.

Immediately after the Supreme Court decision which nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta's re election, Karua indicated that she would also be heading to court.

"As such we are exploring legal options to open the process to scrutiny in line with an open and transparent process a fundamental requisite to free, fair and credible elections," she stated

Reiterating Ms Karua's comments, her running mate Gachoki Gitari, stated that the legal team had been instructed to file the petition.

Waiguru, who was vying on a Jubilee ticket, won the gubernatorial seat with 161,681 votes beating Karua who garnered 122,067 votes.
