Jubilee Party Forms Special Group Ahead of Fresh Presidential Elections

Jubilee Party politicians who lost in the August 8 elections have formed an association to support President Uhuru Kenyatta in the fresh presidential election ordered by the IEBC.

The association includes former Nairobi MCAs, independent candidates and senatorial aspirants who ran on Jubilee tickets.

Acting Chairman, Hashim Kamau on Tuesday said the team will ensure President Kenyatta gets more votes in the repeat poll after the Supreme Court annulled the August 8 election on the grounds that it was not conducted in accordance with the Constitution.

"Raila Odinga managed to get more votes than President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi in the just concluded elections.

"This time we want to make sure that the president wins with a big margin," Kamau was quoted by The Standard.

The former minority chief whip said the members would be embarking on door-to-door campaigns across the city, drumming up support for the Jubilee Party leader.

On Monday, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that a repeat of the presidential election will be held on October 17.

IEBC, however, stated that only President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga will be on the ballot.

Odinga, however, came out to state that he would not participate in the elections if some of his grievances were not addressed.
