MPs Push for Joho or Kingi to be Named NASA Co-Principal

National Super Alliance (NASA) legislators led by Kilifi North MP Owen Baya want either Governor Amason Kingi or Mombasa overnor Ali Hassan Joho named a seventh NASA principal.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, the legislators noted that the two coast region leaders had delivered many seats for the Coalition, therefore, the coast region people should have a principal from the area.

"As people from Mombasa and Kilifi, we are saying either Joho or Kingi must be in that team of principals," stated the Kilifi North MP.

"This is not a request. We are demanding this since Kingi and Joho have a following not only in the Coast but also countrywide."

The MPs further pointed out that governor Kingi had done enough during the election by securing majority votes for NASA in the region.

According to the MPs, Mr Kingi delivered for the Opposition all the seven MPs from the region, 27 out of 35 MCAs, Woman Representative and Senator in the county.

Mr Baya further noted that failure to elevate Joho or Kingi in the Opposition would make it hard for the NASA leaders to convince residents to back Raila Odinga in the upcoming presidential elections.

The legislator further indicated: "We need a bigger stake as we go to campaign for Raila in the repeat polls."

Kaloleni MP Paul Katana stated that owning a party should not be a requirement for one to be a principal in the National Super Alliance.

His Rabai Constituency counterpart, William Ramoti noted that the Coast MPs have been pushing for a slot since the time the Opposition was under the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD).

"We want to be part of the decision makers in NASA since as Coast leaders, we feel short-changed. Let them tell us the conditions for one to be a principal," he stated

The Kaloleni MP further questioned the criteria in which Peter Munya was made a principal yet he was a new member.

"Some of the principals being brought in may not add value, but the two have done a lot here at the coast," he stated.

Other politicians who sought for a NASA coast principal include Aisha Jumwa (Malindi woman representative) Teddy Mwambire (Ganze) and Michael Kingi (Magarini)and Gertrude Mbeyu(Kilifi Woman representative).

NASA principals were initially four in number - Raila Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (Amani National Congress) and Moes Wetang'ula (Ford Kenya).

Issac Ruto of Chama Cha Mashinani joined the team during the August 8 general election campaigns.

On Monday, Former Meru Governor Peter Munya joined the coalition and was named a principal.
