Former Governor Jack Ranguma Files Petition Challenging Anyang' Nyong'o's Win

Professor Anyang' Nyong'o's Governorship is at stake after former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma filed a petition challenging the election outcome.

Mr Ranguma has accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of mismanaging the elections in Kisumu county.

The former governor, therefore wants the court to declare that the announcement of Prof. Nyong'o as the gubernatorial winner null and void.

"We also want a recount and audit of voters after which Ranguma would be found to have been the duly-elected governor," he stated.

Reiterating NASA leader Raila Odinga's words, Mr Ranguma noted that Prof. Nyong'o is a computer-generated leader and was not chosen by Kisumu voters.

He went ahead to express his confidence that the court will rule in his favour and the former senator will be removed from office.

"Here in Kisumu we have a 'kifaranga' that I know. Hence this petition will ensure we have justice," he stated.

Meanwhile, the Judiciary has noted that by Wednesday it had received 116 election petitions across the country challenging the results of various elective seats.

The various petitions have been filed following the Supreme Court decision that ruled in favour of a petition filed by NASA leader Raila Odinga.

The Court nullified the presidential results released by IEBC which declared Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner

Nonetheless, the courts have up to February 2018 to determine the fate of the petitions.
