Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero Makes Special Appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero on Sunday made a special appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta asking him to stop spreading lies that he (Kidero) looted County funds to finance the Opposition campaigns.

Speaking at the Gethsemane Ministries Church in Umoja, Nairobi, Kidero denied using county cash to bankroll National Super Alliance (NASA) campaigns adding that both Opposition Leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka had the capability to fund their own campaigns even before the introduction of county governments.

"Raila Odinga vied for the presidency in 1998, 2003, 2008, and 2013 with Kalonzo Musyoka and there were no devolved units then, yet they funded their campaigns," Kidero stated.

He noted President Kenyatta was engaging in unpresidential remarks which he equated to rumour-mongering.

“We have never given money from the county government to NASA or their co-principals and the statement by the President was very unfortunate.

"He should avoid involving himself in frivolous and trivial statements of lies like the one he was saying on Saturday. He should rise above that because every Kenyan is looking up to him," Kidero noted.

The former Governor urged the President to desist from making such remarks and focus on his main duties which include uniting Kenyans.

"They should not panic. We are requesting our President to act presidential because the presidency is a symbol of national unity and if there is any legacy every President wants to leave, it is that of unity where people feel included and not sidelined," he stated.

Regarding sentiments by the President that revenue collection had increased during Governor Mike Sonko's watch, Kidero termed the remarks as lies adding that seasonal parking tickets for the more than 30,000 PSVs in the city are paid for in the first week of the month, thus the surge in revenue.

On Saturday, President Kenyatta noted that former NASA governors who had been defeated in the August elections were financing the Opposition.

The President singled out Nairobi and Kajiado as some of the counties that heavily funded the former Prime Minister's campaigns.

President Kenyatta cited Nairobi County stating that under Governor Mike Sonko the city collects about Sh40 million per day up from Sh17 million which was being raised under Evans Kidero's regime.
