NASA Vows to Swear-in Raila Odinga if This Happens

Former Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama, who has been tasked with spearheading National Super Alliance (NASA) campaigns in Nairobi, has warned that if President Uhuru Kenyatta is sworn in illegally, then they will also organise to have opposition leader Raila Odinga inaugurated separately.

Sources within the coalition indicate that the opposition is wary of a secret swearing-in ceremony for President Kenyatta and have plans in place in case that happens.

''This time we are not taking any chances. If they swear Uhuru into office illegally, we will also move in and swear Raila into office,'' said Mr Muthama on Sunday.

The Opposition presidential campaign team vowed on Sunday that it will not participate in the repeat presidential poll unless the electoral body's CEO Ezra Chiloba is sacked.

"The (Ezra) Chiloba team must go home. These were the prime suspects who were involved in the shambolic elections.

"They should be prosecuted for election offences," said Mr Odinga.

NASA lawyers will this week move to court to seek the prosecution of top officials of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The coalition accuses the officials of messing up the August 8 election, leading to its nullification.

"The coalition’s lawyers are in the process of furnishing the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions with material seeking to show how top IEBC managers messed up with the election which was nullified by the Supreme Court on September 1," said Mr Paul Mwangi, the coalition’s legal team head.

At the same time, NASA top leaders said they were giving the international observer missions a second chance to redeem themselves on October 17.

This is after they (observers) gave the elections of August 8 a clean bill of health only for the Supreme Court to overturn the presidential election results.
