DP Ruto Issues New Statement After Meeting IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati

Deputy President William Ruto has stated that he has no personal vendetta against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman, Wafula Chebukati.

For a while now, the DP has been accusing Chebukati of meeting leaders of the National Super Alliance (NASA) at night but on Tuesday he stated that his sentiments meant no harm.

Speaking on Tuesday at Anniversary towers after a brief meeting with top IEBC officials, Ruto revealed that he had full confidence in the polls body despite earlier speculation that some commissioners were partisan.

The DP also stated that the Jubilee Party would grant IEBC the respect it deserves but added that they were ready to engage in talks if they are called upon.

He hit out at opposition leaders after they walked out of the meeting with the IEBC over a 'new document' that they (NASA) had to go through.

"We need to respect the independence of the IEBC. We cannot keep on complaining about everything," stated Ruto.

The opposition temporarily ended talks with the electoral commission after accusing the poll body of not being ready to conduct the meeting.

Earlier on Tuesday, NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi stated that the IEBC presented a new document during the talks and they first have to go through it.

"It is clear that IEBC was not ready for this. Our view is that a lot more needs to be done.

"IEBC should have had the courtesy of giving us the document much earlier," he stated after walking out of the session.

It is not yet clear what is contained in the document but the NASA leaders stated that they had to scrutinize it first to see whether their concerns have been addressed.
