National Super Alliance (NASA) Co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has disclosed that the IEBC Chair, Wafula Chebukati, on Tuesday confessed he had been warned about meeting the opposition coalition leaders on Tuesday.
IEBC was to hold a meeting with Presidential candidates for NASA and Jubilee Party, however, the latter failed to show up on time forcing the Raila Odinga-led team to walk out.
Speaking during a rally in Kibra on Tuesday evening, Kalonzo disclosed that they walked out after Jubilee opted to send representatives other than President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"Uhuru and Ruto sent Tuju instead of showing up themselves. When they heard Raila was coming, Ruto came and he is not the Presidential candidate," he explained.
He further stated that they were ambushed with a document that showed how the October elections would be carried out.
"They gave us a document that showed how they would conduct the 17th October elections and we asked why they had not sent an advance copy to enable us to make an informed decision," he elaborated.
He added that the document showed that Dubai-based printing firm, Al Ghurair would still print the ballot papers for the fresh elections.
The Wiper leader stated that efforts to meet and discuss with IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati about the contents of the documents were futile because he (Chebukati) was afraid.
"Badala Chebukati kuja kuonana na Raila alisema anaogopa. Jubilee wanakataa asikuje pale (Instead of Chebukati meeting with Raila he said he was afraid because the Jubilee party had refused him to meet with us (NASA)," Kalonzo stated.
NASA leaders ended talks with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after accusing the poll body of not being ready to conduct the meeting.
Speaking after a brief meeting with IEBC bosses at Anniversary towers on Tuesday, NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi stated that the electoral body presented a new document during the talks and they first have to go through it.
"It is clear that IEBC was not ready for this. Our view is that a lot more needs to be done.
"IEBC should have had the courtesy of giving us the document much earlier," he stated after walking out of the session.
