Nakuru County Government Ordered to pay Sacked Workers Sh100 Million

Nakuru County Government has been forced to part with Sh100 Million as payment to 13 workers who were wrongfully dismissed by the municipal council 23 years ago.

High Court Judge Paul Sigei told the county to unconditionally reinstate the workers to the posts held on June 17, 1993.

In a letter to the Public Service Board, County Secretary Joseph Motari acknowledged that the county had lost their appeal in the court noting that the county workers will be reinstated.

"In compliance with the court order, urgently proceed and reinstate the affected officers as per the court order," part of the letter read.

Following the request, the county wrote to the workers asking them to resume their duties as the county government plans for the clearing of the accrued salaries and benefits.

Nonetheless, two of the employees died while five retired, leaving six workers who have been asked to resume their duties.

Two weeks ago, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui lost a case against his officials after the Employment and Labour Relations Court ordered all suspended workers to return to work.
