Jubilee Leaders Reveal Their Next Move if NASA Boycotts Election

Jubilee Party leaders have vowed that President Uhuru Kenyatta will be sworn into office if the Opposition led by Raila Odinga makes good their threat to boycott the October election.

Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju on Thursday challenged the National Super Alliance (NASA) to confirm in writing to the IEBC that it would not participate in the repeat presidential poll. This, according to Tuju, will see President Kenyatta sworn in as planned as he would be unopposed.

Tuju stated that if the Opposition was keen on not participating in the election, then there was no need for the country to spend Sh12 Billion on the repeat poll.

“If they really mean what they say, let them show bravery and write to IEBC and say so,” Tuju stated.

Regarding plans by NASA to ensure that the election does not take place on October 17th, the Jubilee Secretary General explained that there was no way the Opposition could stop the polls from taking place, adding that the recent remarks by the Opposition were a sign that NASA was scared of losing.

“What law or clause of the Constitution will they use to stop the country from holding the election? The Supreme Court was compliant with the Constitution that a fresh presidential election is held within 60 days,” he highlighted.

He took a swipe at NASA for asking Kenyans to donate funds towards their campaign stating that NASA was engaging in an obvious game of political conmanship since on one side, the NASA leadership was saying there will be no election yet on the other side they were "raking in money from poor wananchi through an M-Pesa Paybill number".

Tuju also hit out at the Opposition MPs for missing Parliamentary sittings after taking the oath of office. He dared them to miss 8 consecutive sittings, adding that the NASA MPs were more interested in the payroll than discharging their legislative role.

Jubilee has in the past few weeks launched an onslaught against the Opposition with the latest move seeing Jubilee MPs call on the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) to strip powers from Opposition Legislators who are yet to be confirmed in the house.
