Government Sends New Message to Chief Justice David Maraga

The Government Spokesman Eric Kiraithe has sent a new message to Chief Justice David Maraga regarding criticism he faced for nullifying President Uhuru Kenyatta's win.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Kiraithe urged the CJ to remain professional in his work despite the bashing he has been receiving.

The Spokesman stated that it was not a crime for anybody to give an opinion regarding the ruling including President Kenyatta.

However, he stated that it was not right for Kenyans to brand the Judiciary noting that Maraga had enough “shock absorbers” to handle the situation.

"We take great exception with people who would want to brand the judiciary but we believe Maraga has the capacity and the necessary shock absorbers to remain focused,” he affirmed.

Kirathe further asked the CJ to remain focused and ensure he delivers the full judgement of the matter as promised when reading the September 1 ruling.

He defended the government affirming that it respects the independence of the Judiciary adding that the disagreement which emerged following the nullification was expected.

He also expressed confidence that the judiciary will continue executing its mandate calling on the Supreme Court judges to issue enough details in the ruling.

"The evidence and grounds on which the judgment was delivered should be provided. It doesn't help anybody when there is scanty information within the public domain," Kiraithe stated.
