5 Killed in Motorcycle Accident in Kirinyaga County

Five people were killed in a motorcycle accident on Sunday night in Kagumo Town, Kirinyaga County.

The five youth who included a female Kirinyaga University student died after the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

According to police reports, the motorcycle was headed to Kerugoya town while the car was heading to Karatina.

Three people died on the spot while the other two died while receiving treatment at the ACK Mt. Kenya Hospital in Kerugoya.

Eyewitnesses stated that police officers were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the irate residents who arrived at the scene of the accident.

This comes after 11 people were killed after a matatu crashed into a lorry on the Nairobi-Thika superhighway.

The accident involved a lorry, a Mwiki Sacco minibus, a 14 seater matatu and a saloon car.

Seven people, two males and five females, died on the spot while the rest succumbed to their injuries in hospital.

The crash happened after the driver of the lorry that was heading to Nairobi lost control and veered off the road.

The driver of the 34-seater Mwiki Sacco minibus rammed into the lorry and on the impact his vehicle was thrown over to the opposite lane, hitting the 14-seater matatu that was headed to Nanyuki from Nairobi. It also hit a car.
