KNUT Officials Declare Support for President Uhuru Kenyatta

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) leaders from the North Rift have endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta for The Presidency in the upcoming October 17 poll.

In a statement over the weekend, Union officials from Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties said that President Kenyatta deserves a chance to finish projects he initiated.

Eldoret East Executive Secretary, John Bor, announced he had launched a door to door campaign to ensure victory for the Jubilee team.

"We are going to campaign vigorously for President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure he clinches decisive victory in the October 17 repeat presidential poll based on his development record since he took over the reins of power four years ago," Bor declared.

The teachers distanced themselves from the declaration made by their National Secretary General, Wilson Sossion, that the teaching fraternity will rally behind National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate, Raila Odinga.

"We as KNUT leaders from North Rift have resolved unanimously without any influence or pressure from any quartets to drum up support for the President in the re-run election," stated the Nandi KNUT Executive Secretary, Joseph Serem.

His Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart, John Cheberer, attributed peaceful correlation in the Kerio Valley to the Jubilee administration, calling for their re-election.

"The residents of Kerio Valley and students are going about their chores without worry over their safety following the government’s efforts to restore law and order in the once volatile region. We will definitely vote for Uhuru’s re-election come October 17," Cheberer stated.

On Monday, Mr Sossion, disagreed with Odinga on an earlier statement calling for the Ministry of Education to postpone the national examinations.
