Two Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MPs have threatened to swear in National Super Alliance (NASA) Flag bearer Raila Odinga as president if Jubilee Party MPs pass Bills to amend parts of the Constitution.
Speaking during a rally in Bondo, Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) and Samuel Atandi (Alego Usonga) warned that they would not watch as Jubilee mutilate the Constitution.
Odhiambo stated that Mr Odinga will be sworn in by lawyers James Orengo and Otiende Amolo, both of who represented Raila in the presidential election petition.
“The Jubilee administration has no business being in office if all they care about is their selfish interest,” Odhiambo stated.
“Raila will be sworn in as president because Jubilee is now defaced by the Supreme Court,” he added.
Atandi and Odhiambo told their Jubilee counterparts to instead fix the high cost of living.
Last week, Jubilee MPs announced that they would introduce radical electoral amendments that would make it impossible for the Supreme Court to annul a presidential election.
In their interpretation of Section 82 of the Elections Act, the Jubilee leaders stated that an election would only be nullified if a petitioner is able to prove the conduct of the election substantially violated the principles laid down in the Constitution and other written laws.
They further stated that an election would be annulled if it was fraught with irregularities or illegalities that affected the result.
The legislators also seek to introduce what they term a complementary mechanism to electronic transmission of results.
