Former Nakuru Town MP and Jubilee Party Nakuru Chairperson David Manyara today arrested and arraigned in court over hate speech remarks.
Manyara, who has been under investigation by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), was charged over remarks he made before the release of the full judgment on the presidential election petition.
In making the contentious remarks, the former MP warned National Super Alliance (NASA) Flag bearer Raila Odinga and his supporters of "war" following the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory,
"Let Raila be warned that we are ready for war. He has been telling us that he is the only one with the people behind him. We want to tell him that from today the real Kenyans are going to rise up," Manyara was captured stating in a video.
"Let Mr Odinga know that [...] we will fight with those who are telling us that there will be no election. It is not as if we are carrying children. If necessary those carrying children will have no choice but [to] put the children down and fight,” he added.
In the meantime, Mr Manyara has been released on a Sh100,000 cash bail pending the hearing of his case at a later date.
NCIC Chairperson Francis Ole Kaparo has assured that the commission will not relent in fortifying peace efforts.
