Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has sent an apology to the Kenyatta family following Embakasi East MP Babu Owino's recent demeaning comments.
Over the weekend, Babu was accused of referring to President Uhuru Kenyatta as a puppy and has received a lot of stick for it.
Passaris has distanced herself from those sentiments, strongly condemning Babu's words saying he crossed the line.
"I would like to condemn in the strongest terms possible the utterances made by fellow MP Babu Owino during our campaign rally in Westlands and Dagoretti North.
"As a mother, I sincerely apologize to the former First Lady, Her Excellency Mama Ngina Kenyatta and her family over the insult and disrespect meted on her, which neither depicts nor reflects the character or direction envisaged by our party leader Hon. Raila Odinga...," stated Passaris.
She further added that leaders should not abuse their freedom of expression but instead should exercise responsibility in what they say.
"Freedom of speech comes with responsibility and I beg my fellow politicians and Kenyans on both sides of the divide not to abuse this freedom - whether on Social Media or otherwise," she concluded.
Speaking in Kangemi, Babu told the crowd: "If Muammar Gaddafi was removed by citizens, if Laurent Gbagbo was removed by citizens, if Yahya Jammmeh was removed by citizens, who are you? Wewe ni mtoto wa mbwa (You are the son of a dog)." The remarks are believed to have been directed at President Uhuru Kenyatta.
