Tension is high in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) following a clash between National Super Alliance and Jubilee Party supporters outside the IEBC headquarters at Anniversary Towers.
Business operators in certain sections of the city centre have been forced to shut down their premises amid fears of looting by the protestors. Motorists using the busy University Way have also been diverted to avoid being caught up in the ensuing fracas.
NASA supporters began trooping towards the IEBC offices Tuesday morning to join their political leaders in a protest to demand the exit of top IEBC officials among them CEO Ezra Chiloba.
Unexpectedly, youth alleged to have been hired by Jubilee leaders arrived at the IEBC Headquarters chanting "we want peace".
The two rival groups began charging at each other prompting anti-riot police to fire teargas canisters to disperse the rowdy youth before cordoning off the IEBC offices.

So far, one person has been rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries in the chaos while one other individual has been arrested.
The Jubilee supporters are against plans by the Opposition to protest outside the Commission's office. They claim the NASA demonstrations are aimed at destroying property in the city.
The NASA political leaders have, however, failed to join their supporters on the streets as they had promised.
