Senator Murkomen Reveals How NASA Tried to Trick Jubilee at IEBC Meeting at Bomas

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has indicated that the National Super Alliance (NASA) team tried to trick Jubilee leaders during the IEBC meeting held today at Bomas of Kenya.

Addressing the press on Thursday afternoon, the Senator alleged that the opposition team was setting Jubilee up to run away from engaging in the agenda of the meeting.

"Today they came in with 17 fresh demands. We agreed to that again, they said that they are not ready. Whatever NASA are calling bombshell, is just a smokescreen. They don't want to engage us in a meeting," he conveyed.

Murkomen revealed that there was no meaningful discussion between the parties even though Jubilee were ready for the consultative talks.

"As Jubilee, we are ready to meet NASA anytime, anywhere. Let them come up with a date and venue. We will go there!" he affirmed.

The Elgeyo Marakwet legislator stated that Jubilee would not relent with the Bill to make amendments to the Election laws. He added that the motion would be tabled in the Senate and a joint parliamentary sitting between the two Houses would be held on Friday morning to allow for public participation.

"The Bill does not in any way change the transmission of results. We are just providing a mechanism for alternative transmission," Murkomen stated.

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju hit out at the opposition coalition for using mass action to address their issues.

"They condemn us for using parliament which is a legal means to push our agendas and yet they go to the streets and issue threats. Pathetic," Tuju maintained.

Meanwhile the National Super Alliance (NASA) today stormed out of the consultative meeting following the decision by Jubilee to rapidly push changes to Kenya's electoral laws.

Siaya Senator James Orengo stated: "This legislation is being driven through parliament at supersonic speeds. By the end of the day, we may have a bill ready for assent, we were left with no alternative but to walk out of this meeting.. Jubilee has reached a level where they feel they can change the Constitution through the back door."

Another prominent member of NASA's legal team, Paul Mwangi, stated: "The effect of the amendment is to change the rules of the game midstream. What was a foul previously is no longer a foul."

On his part, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati invited both Jubilee and NASA back to the negotiating table to address the contentious issues affecting the upcoming polls.

"We have identified areas that we need to work on...We don't need any other laws to hold an election on October 26th.

"We are hoping whatever changes made should not affect what we are doing, to do so would affect our manual, our training of officials," Chebukati stated.
