Fred Matiang'i Shamed After Withdrawal of Raila's Security

COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has launched a scathing attack at Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i for announcing that Opposition leader Raila Odinga's security and that of his co-principals will not be reinstated.

Addressing the press, Atwoli asked Dr Matiang'i to show some respect for his elders adding that the move to recall Raila and Kalonzo Musyoka's security detail was ill-advised especially during this electioneering period.

"I want to tell young Matiang'i that he was a nobody. He came to the limelight the other day. I am even sure he cannot win a race to be a leader of a local cattle dip in his Kisii county.

"Let him learn to respect elders and people who took him to school....Raila is a senior leader, having served as Prime Minister...he needs to be treated with respect," Atwoli stated.

He called on the CS to desist from politics and concentrate on security matters and how to increase youth employment and economic growth.

"What if Raila becomes president after the October 26 election? Matiang'i should not allow himself to be used by selfish leaders. He is in charge of security and must ensure everyone is protected in accordance with the law," the COTU boss noted.

On Wednesday, CS Matiang'i noted that Mr Odinga's security had been withdrawn because he had "pushed the government to the wall".

The CS explained that the government had noted with great concern attempts by the opposition leader to cause chaos in the country adding that they were not willing to take it anymore.

"We cannot tolerate that anymore. They have pushed us to the wall and we are saying enough is enough," he stated.

Matiang'i issued a stern warning to the leaders indicating that State actions will be clear on those bent on breaking the law.

"Let them go ahead to threaten others, and test what we can do as a government. You will be very sorry for taking that direction," the CS submitted.
