CS Fred Matiang'i Reveals Why Government Withdrew Raila Odinga's Security Detail

Acting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i on Wednesday revealed that Opposition leader Raila Odinga's security detail was withdrawn because he "pushed the government to the wall".

The CS stated that the government had noted with great concern attempts by the opposition leader to cause chaos in the country adding that they were not willing to take it anymore.

"We cannot tolerate that anymore. They have pushed us to the wall and we are saying enough is enough," he stated.

Addressing questions as to whether the security details of the National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders would be reinstated, Matiang'i explained that "the government cannot waste its resources in providing security to people bent on malice and out to destabilise the same system that takes care of them".

He submitted that the government had not broken any law in withdrawing the bodyguards of Raila and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka adding that the government will not play games with politicians who divide Kenyans, hence, polarising the country.

"We are coming for you. You will run but we will get you and ensure that the law takes care of you.

"They can go where they wish including calling for mass action. The government is not ready to talk to those whose security detail has been withdrawn," he stated.

Matiang'i issued a stern warning to the leaders indicating that State actions will be clear on those bent on breaking the law.

"Let them go ahead to threaten others, and test what we can do as a government. You will be very sorry for taking that direction," the CS submitted.

On Tuesday, police officers assigned to Odinga and his co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka were recalled and told to hand over their police radios so that they could not monitor police communication.
