Why NTV’s Ken Mijungu Wants to Resign

Popular NTV news anchor Ken Mijungu has announced plans to resign from the media house.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Mijungu stated that he would resign if Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet fails to take any action on the alleged police brutality witnessed during the demonstrations by a section of University of Nairobi students.

Mijungu lamented over the several times he had reported on police using unnecessary force on civilians during demonstrations yet no action was being taken.

"You have seen the many stories Nation has done concerning this issue and nothing has been done. There is no point of reporting the same thing over and over again.,” Mijungu stated.

“If action is taken I will definitely continue working here. But if nothing is done, then I see no point of doing this over and over,” he added.

Earlier on, the journalist had given Boinnet seven days to arrest and prosecute police officers who tear-gassed the students in their hostel.

IG Boinnet has since denied the claims of brutality explaining that the police officers were just enforcing the law as required.

Mijungu wrote: “After watching several of the videos especially of the police tear gassing students in their hostel, I am asking the IG Boinnet to take action on the police within 7 days, arrest and prosecute. If he doesn’t I will resign."

This comes just a few days after videos emerged on social media showing General Service Unit officers (GSU) clobbering students in their halls of residence.

Some of the students were seen running back to their hostels for safety, with police in hot pursuit.
