Police Use Teargas on Nursery School Children in Kisumu

Disturbing footage has emerged online of police using tear gas on nursery school children in Kisumu during the anti-IEBC protests on Monday.

The incident is said to have taken place at St Peter’s Awich Kodingo ECDE (Early Childhood Development) Center located in Nyalenda Slum.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Ms MaryAnne Collet, a teacher at the Centre stated that the incident started at 11 am when police threw a cannister in one of the classrooms.

"They threw one canister into a classroom and when we teachers tried to explain there were children they threw three more and we started running out with the pupils," she explained.

Sounding distressed, Ms Collet asked for the County government to provide counselling services to the children who were affected by the incident.

"Two children have been taken to hospital and 25 others have skipped school because they are traumatized. We ask for help from the county government to provide counselling for the young children," she added.
