Uhuru's Secretary Shames Raila During Meeting With Clergy

National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has been labelled a "time-waster" by Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu.

Dr Mailu launched his onslaught against the Opposition leader during a meeting with clerics from the Catholic Church where the issue of vaccinations was discussed.

The CS has claimed that the NASA leader's attempts to bring up issues around the tetanus vaccine was ill-timed and unnecessary.

"Those were the issues of 2014 where there was a concern on immunisation.

"We later instituted the committee because we wanted everybody to feel comfortable with mass vaccination of our children," the CS stated.

Catholic Health Commission of Kenya Chairman, Paul Kariuki, further criticised the NASA leader urging him to stop revisiting the matter when the church had already moved on.

Rev. Kariuki explained that Mr Odinga's move was an unwelcome effort to politicise health matters.

"The Catholic Church and other religious bodies are now working with the Ministry of Health and we came up with the committee of experts.

"Whenever there is an issue of vaccination, the experts assure us that whatever our people are receiving is clean," the cleric explained in his inaugural address at the opening of the 2017 Annual Catholic Health Conference on Tuesday.

In September, Mr Odinga accused the Jubilee administration of a sinister plan to make women of reproductive age infertile through a tetanus vaccine.

At the time, Raila cited a statement previously issued by the Catholic Church against the said vaccine.
