Kisumu Residents Declare Saturday Raila's Day

Kisumu residents have announced plans to set aside Saturday, October 7 to exclusively hold prayers for National Super Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

The residents along with various church leaders from the lakeside county will converge at the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), Milimani grounds for the meeting.

Sources privy to details of the event have revealed that clerics along with some dignitaries will hold the prayers at the church during morning hours and members of the public will later meet at the Kenyatta Stadium for public prayers in the afternoon.

Bishop Mwai Abiero of ACK and Bishop Ogonyo Ngede of Power of Jesus Around the World Ministries, who are coordinating the event on Wednesday gave updates on the preparations they were already making.

"We have moved around and made adequate arrangements to host Raila and pray for him as he prepares to go to the ballot again.

"One of our key missions is to come here and unite the people of Kenya. As a church, we strongly believe in unity in diversity," Dr Ngede conveyed.

Bishop Winnie Owiti of the Voice of Salvation Church registered appreciation to the former Prime Minister who had accepted their invitation.

The Bishop noted that the NASA presidential candidate had honoured them despite the fact that he would be on the campaign trail soon after the prayers.

Meanwhile, the NASA Nyanza presidential campaign secretariat was held up in a meeting to strategise on their presidential candidate's scheduled visit to the region over the weekend.

The team comprises Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, former nominated MP Oburu Odinga, former MP Paddy Ahenda and Bob Madanji.

"The demos for no reforms, no elections will continue but won't deter us from holding or carrying on with our grassroots campaigns," Mr Madanji told the Standard.
