On Tuesday this week, Sonko suspended 15 county employees including senior officials who were linked to a land grabbing syndicate that has left some property owners homeless after the expiry of their leases.

Among those sent on compulsory leave are Lands Chief Officer Stephen Mwangi, Legal Services Director Karisa Iha, senior lawyers Nyagara NyamweyaViolet OyangiEvans MogireJohn Ombogi and Principal Counsel Newton Mungai.

Besides suspending the officers, Governor Sonko also locked 200 other workers out of their offices to pave the way for investigations at the county assembly

In September, the Governor disclosed that revenue collection by the Nairobi County Government had increased since he took over power from Kidero.

Sonko who pegged his election campaign on cleaning up the city and initiating a purge on cartels at City Hall added that the county was now collecting between Sh35-55 Million daily, and was able to collect Sh99 Million on a single day on September 7.

He has occasionally accused county officials of corruption which he has vowed to eliminate after discovering Sh7 Million that had not been banked days after taking over as Governor – leading to an investigation against several officials.

During his swearing-in ceremony, Sonko promised to transform Nairobi and return it to its former glory making it one of the most beautiful cities in Africa.
