Government Goes After Moses Kuria On Hate Speech Charges

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has once again been summoned to appear before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over alleged hate speech remarks.

In a letter dated October 6, the controversial MP was asked to appear before the NCIC on Monday, October 9 at 11 am.

This comes following remarks Kuria made on September 25, asking the Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, to shoot dead Opposition leader Raila Odinga and National Super Alliance supporters who would break the law during anti-IEBC demonstrations.

The lawmaker has since taken to social media to question if there is anything like 'inciting the police'.

Speaking during a campaign tour in Nakuru, Kuria reminded the police that their role is to protect citizens, stating that they should not allow the NASA team to continue causing chaos in their protests aimed at pushing for reforms at the IEBC.

"“Mr. Boinnett, the gun you have is not a pen. It has bullets and you should use it. The work of the police is to protect the citizens. If Raila Amollo Odinga will be the first to break the law tomorrow (September 26) then let him be shot dead,” Kuria was captured stating, in a video that went viral on social media.

Last month on September 11, Moses Kuria had been arrested alongside former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama over alleged hate speech.

Kuria was arrested in Nairobi and was held at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters.

After spending a night at Pangani Police Station, Kuria and Muthama were arraigned in court and released on a cash bail of Ksh 300,000 each.

Here is the letter from NCIC summoning Kuria to appear before the commission.
